"People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people." - V in 'V For Vendetta'
Come, let us paraphrase. People should not be afraid of their presidents. Presidents should be afraid of their people.
It appears very likely that Bush will start a war with Iran in the near future. He's poised to do this without the approval of Congress or the American people. He's deaf to our will, to the imperatives of the Constitution, national security, fiscal responsibility, international law and sanity.
So what's a patriotic American to do? I don't claim to have all the answers, but I do know this: Every citizen should have a V / Guy Fawkes mask hidden away somewhere, just in case. I know money is tight. That's why I've created a free printable mask. Drag the photo to your desktop, then print. Cut out the mask and the holes for the eyes, staple a cord to either side, and you're ready to go. Other items to complete your look:
- A long-sleeved black shirt
- Black pants
- Black shoes
- A black hat
- A piece of black fabric large enough to tie around your neck as a cape
- A black wig
If you'd prefer a real mask (some people are using them as decorative statements), low-cost ones can be found. Make sure your item is in stock before you order. 'V' costumes are in curiously high demand lately.
If and when we gather, remember that, without media attention, an event might as well not even have happened. The steps of City Hall or your state capitol are good. The public sidewalk in front of a local TV station may, depending on your situation, be even better. (The area in front of the White House is the best, of course, but do what you can where you can.) You'll need a spokesperson able to clearly and effectively state your concerns. Signs may or may not be necessary. (The costume speaks for itself.)
I am but a humble Photoshop user. If you can improve on my admittedly amateur work, feel free.
