I live in Sarasota, Florida where 18,400 mostly Democratic voters had their votes lost by the secret paperless touchscreen system. The local Republican government runs a tight ship, so it will be up to Congress to do anyhing. We need help to make sure that Congress pushes forward with the investigation of this incident.
The local press has been saying that the Congressional Democratic leadership wants to be known as bi-partisan. So they are saying that Nancy Pelosi is going to back off of investigating the mangled FL-13 Congressional Race.
Ironically in this same election the voters of Sarasota County and overwhelmingly voted to require paper ballots in time for the 2008 election. But the Republican County Commission intentionally voted to exclude anyone who worked for passage of the charter amendment from the committee appointed to advise them on what system to buy.
Sarasota County voter rtegistration is about 47% GOP, 31% Democrat and 19% Independent. In this past election Democratic candidates for the top six posts received almost exactly 50% of the votes, and that does not include th 18,400 people whose votes were lost in the system.
So, why is the County Commission 100% Republican? And why isn't the 100% Republican County Commission woried about appearing to be partisan?
Last week Diane Feinstein was quoted as saying that she wants to see the Senate investigate the missing votes in Sarasota. Rush Holt wants to see the same investigation in the House.
The Democrats in Congress will go forward with this if they feel that it is important to their constituents. So I want to urge everyone who reads this post to call, write, fax and email their Congresspersons (both House and Senate) and urge them to push for an investigation of the missing 18,400 votes in Sarasota.
Look for more facts about these missing votes in future posts.
Thanks,
Steve in Sarasota
