I looked through the recent diaries to see if this has been covered. In my opinion, this should be all over the MSM. I found the article in at TIME.com, of all places. Apparently, Brown claims that the response to Katrina was, wait for it, politically motivated. Just when you thought it couldn't be any worse, it gets worse. I'm really surprised this hasn't gotten more play here. Follow me beyond the break for my thoughts on the matter...
According to this article, former FEMA head Michael Brown said last Friday:
Brown said he had recommended to President Bush that all 90,000 square miles along the Gulf Coast affected by the hurricane be federalized, making the federal government in charge of all agencies responding to the disaster.
"Unbeknownst to me, certain people in the White House were thinking we had to federalize Louisiana because she's a white, female Democratic governor and we have a chance to rub her nose in it," he said.
Let's just stop and think about that for a second. The President of the United States was not concerned about how to protect millions of its citizens against a life-threatening category 5 hurricane. He is interest lies specifically in scoring political points against a governor from the other party. Party before country, in black and white.
We all know what happened next. People in New Orleans were dying while the President campaigned with the Republican front runner.
To his credit, Brown pushed for the Federalization of the entire region (or so he claims).
My tinfoil hat seems to be humongous these days. But something tells me that Lieberman's quid pro quo is all part of not investigating Katrina. After all, it looks like there really is an evil plot here. If the President picked politics over performing his Constitutional duty to protect and defend the citizens of this country, that is impeachable right there.
Governor Blanco says it best:
This is exactly what we were living but could not bring ourselves to believe. Karl Rove was playing politics while our people were dying. The federal effort was delayed, and now the public knows why. It's disgusting.
