The good news: There will be a totally cool fundraiser for Craig Johnson, a Democrat running in a special election to take over a previously Republican held seat in the New York State Senate, next Thursday, February 1st right here in the big NYC. The fundraiser, an outgrowth of our very own Brian Keeler blograisers, is sponsored by a variety of NYS oriented blogs, will be blogcast, and will feature newly elected New York Governor and Democratic superstar Eliot Spitzer.
The bad news: I can't make it.
So I want you to attend for me. I'm willing to "sponsor" up to five people who want to go the event but who aren't in a position to contribute themselves.
Read on for more. . .
This event is important because
- we (Democrats) need to take the State Senate from the Republicans
- we (Americans) need non-Republican dominated redistricting for the next census
- we (the Grassroots) need to impress the state party with our ability to turn out people to work for change.
So here's the deal. I'll make a contribution of $50 for each person who wants to go. The only rub is I want you to help strengthen the netroots by joining The Albany Project. You can sign up now if you're not already a member. If you go there now, you'll see my diary with the same title as this one with the rest of the details of how to sign up.
These blograisers are great -- they're very informal and you'll meet a lot of cool people from dKos. You may even get to see history made -- the event will be blogcasted and there's a rumor that Governor Spitzer may blog himself.
I want to get my contribution in by tomorrow evening (Thursday), so please let me know as soon as possible if you want to be included.
