Okay, so maybe an anti-war protest isn't supposed to be funny. But I find almost everything funny in one way or another. I often get accused of "innapropriate laughter", God Forbid!
Anyway, Jim and I made our poster on friday night and our first idea was to "Impeach Cheney first". As an after thought we made the other side different.
Join me for yet another picture diary of the protest in DC.
The day started when Jim picked me up at 5:30 am. In the car was Bernie who had responded to the offer of a ride on the protest web site. Half and hor later we were stopping or Mary in Nuangola. It was still dark and very cold and I was already tired from a long week. But as we drove along we all got to know each other.
Bernie has a custom T-shirt etc.. business in Scranton. He is an independent, slightly more liberal than me. We had an interesting discussion about whether the war in Bosnia was a good or bad thing.
Mary has lived in Germany for several years. She was a teacher in another life and now she is "house flipping" which seems like a really fun way to make a living to me. She feels it is way too early to decide on a presidential candidate. I told her I had wanted Gore as president since the 80s and so that was probably not going to change. However I certainly understood her point.
Jim and I agreed on the way home that one of the best parts of the day was meeting interesting and nice new people and of course Mary and Bernie who we spent the whole day with, top that list.
It was also great to meet some kossacks and DFAers who I have enjoyed communicating with on the web over the last few years.
Lots of people stopped us and took pictures of the Bush eating a pootie sign. It was a great conversation starter. On the way back to the Metro a little boy was asking about the picture.
Little boy: Who is that?
His mom: That's George Bush.
LB: What is he doing?
Mom: He's eating a kitten.
LB: Eating a Kitten?
Mom: Yes, George Bush is eating a kitten.
Me: George Bush eats Kittens.
LB: George Bush eats Kittens?
Mom: Yes.
LB: George bush eats Kittens!
I admit it probably isn't nice to tell three your olds that the president eats kittens. But he will never remember it. He will just remember that he hates Bush and that is fine with me and apparently with his mother too. = )
BTW, I managed to mess up taking pictures of Jim and didn't get a single one to mark the day. He was carrying the sign most of the day and I was taking pictures of everything else. I would appreciate it if anyone has a picture of him and the sign or just him, that they would post it or send it to me. He is the tall handsome grey haired guy with the orange scarf and backpack.
Here's the pics:
I swiped this one below from another diary. It is the only one I have with Jim in it and since he is my boss as well as my friend, I was hoping to use one for my desk top at work... just kidding.
tim if you object to me using this pic and adapting it, please let me know and I will remove it from this diary.
This is Bernie:
Loved this protest performance art:

Here is Jim's cat, Hera, being very helpful in the sign making process.
Here is a bonus pic of my younger son and girlfriend who were here all weekend and who I hardly saw at all. So I am posting their picture.
