After reading Seymour Hersh's latest New Yorker piece, what I've been fearing for several months seems inevitable, WE ARE GOING TO ATTACK IRAN. Can we please start marshalling all of our activities against this in a way that we didn't do against the disaster that is Iraq?
Is there any doubt in Hillary's response in the Democratic debate that she is positioning herself to the right on an issue that she is sure will be a factor in the campaign? Get it people, we are going to attack Iran!! Once again, the congress has given authority and we look at the excising of the most imflamatory aspects of the bill, the fact that we can invade Iran at will to pursue hostile forces, as a victory. How many times do we have to be pissed on to realize that it is not particularly pleasant? This is a disaster in the making. The defense that it is too insane to really happen doesn't work any more. The administration, yes the one with the 30% approval rating, is playing our congress like a fiddle. There will be a bombing attack on Iran leading up to the election in hopes of marshalling support for a milataristic approach to foreign policy and our so called leaders will go along because they are so God damned scared of looking soft. Once again there is no hard evidence. The best sources say that Iran is years away from acquiring any kind of nuclear capability. There is scant evidence that the massive blackmarket of high tech weoponry in Iraq is being actively supported by Iran. Yet we will attack them. Deja vu anybody? This is an administration that has yet to put forth one policy proposal that is not completely conceived and implemented on the basis of political advantage. Any doubts about this one? We're strong, Democrats are weak. We're for proactive action, Democrats want Iran to have the bomb and kill our boys. Just because it's insane doesn't mean it won't happen. For God's sake prepare! Contact your congressmen and get them to withdraw the authorization to go to war. Please let us take our heads out of the sand and make a stand so that we can prevent at least one disaster. Read Hersh, read Ritter in the Post and know that if we don't take a stand now, there is no tommorow.
