One of my son's best friends is serving in Iraq. My wife and I work with his parents, and we have literally known since before he was born. He has been in Iraq since last Setember and his tour should end in five weeks. The problem is that he is getting frequent nose bleeds, headaches, short term memory problems, and other symptoms of post concusive disorder.
He talked to a suregeon who was working his way through the Forward Operating Base he is assigned. After hearing the symptoms, he told this young man to go to the hospital for tests and treatments. His commanding officer told him he could not go. Next the surgeon asked that he be removed from the mortar team to give his brain time to recover and not suffer further damage. That medical request was also denied. More
His parents are worried but the type of people who believe in authority and following the rules. They are proud of their son and his service, and his brother is probably going to enlist when he graduates in May.
Is there anything they can do to get him home before he has permanent or any more damage? Should we call the JAG? Senator?
I am asking for help from the great people on this site. I have been mostly a lurker here with just a couple of diares. I have some political contacts if that is the way to go. I don't want to get this young man in any trouble, and until this month, he was planning to make it a career.
He has fought while my son has enjoyed college, and I feel guilty. What can be done to help this one soldier?
