Hey Kossacks --
This is a follow up to my diary yesterday warning about the threat the Pombo bill (HR 3824) poses to the Endangered Species Act. If you're not up to speed yet, read that first.
(The short version: if you like letting politicians decide what "science" is and paying wealthy developers to obey the law, you'll love the Pombo bill.)
Full update after the flip...
And now the news. Thanks to all of you who have called the Hill -- our legislative team tells me that House offices are getting a huge volume of calls, and some are starting to back away from the Pombo bill.
If you haven't called yet, though, you really need to today -- because they're voting this afternoon, and the odds are still tilted towards passage.
We can stop this, but only if you help!
Here's the instructions on how you can take action:
- Find the name of your Representative. If you don't know that, use our Oceana action center to find it (the link will take you to a form where you can look it up by ZIP code).
- Call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and have them put you through to your Representative's office.
- Tell your Rep to vote "NO" on HR 3824 and to support continuing strong protections for endangered species.
That's all it takes -- 5 minutes out of your day to join a nationwide effort to protect endangered species from being handed to the tender mercies of strip-mall developers. There's still time to make a difference!
And again, thanks to all of you who have called so far -- your voices are being heard!
