So I'm over at Buzzflash, and I click on P. M. Carpenter's commentary, "Of Bush's history and Gore's future". It's a short read, but here's the gist:
What with Al Gore having just won the Nobel Peace Prize, the Post saw an opening for a front-page story devoted to the legacies and comparative leadership qualities of the de facto president and the man actually elected.
HEY!! QUIT SNICKERIN'!! I AIN'T GOT TO THE PUNCHLINE YET!!
--something along the lines of comparing the legacies of Idi Amin and Mother Teresa. Right?
You'd think so, sure. And?
...there is simply no question in the mind of any thinking person that we and the world would have been better off had Daffy Duck himself assumed the presidency.
No question, yes inDEEDly-DO.
But what did the Post conclude in relation to the alternative history of an Al Gore presidency?
Whazzat, P.M.?
"No one will ever know."
(...cue spit take...)
So of course I had to go read the damn
story for myself, and sho' 'nuff, there it was, fluffity nothin' BULLSHIT. (but go to Carpenter's piece 1st-PLENTY of snarkity nuggets left for your amusement.)
The Post piece was fairly short too, so I figgered I'd read the comments. Pretty positive, overall, but, of course, the dead-end monkeys were there too, flingin' their poo as usual.
Now I don't comment often, and I CERTAINLY don't diary often(this is only my 2nd), but I AM a party activist(for what it's worth these days), and KNOW that in some small ways through my volunteer work I have contributed to the betterment of my brothers and sisters in my local community.
After all the vile screeds we've been forced to endure the past couple weeks, especially this LAST week, I'd had it-GIVE THAT MAN OF PEACE SOME PEACE!! JESUS FUCKIN' CHRIST!!
I GOT SOME IMPORTANT FISA AND S-CHIP CALLS TO MAKE, YA THINK YA CAN KEEP IT DOWN ALREADY?? ENOUGH!!! God-DAMN!!!
So maybe this marble will knock around in their noggin a little bit for those that happen to read the Post comments:
Bush's legacy--
Born in the smoking rubble of ground zero; drowned in the flooded streets of New Orleans; to be buried forever in the bloody sands of Iraq.
Legacy, thy name is CARNAGE.
(If a similar diary has been posted regarding either one of these articles, forgive me. I only type with 2 fingers. KRUZRDUDE OUT.)
