For far too long we have heard the ridiculous idea that it takes 60 Senators to end the IRAQ war. While you hear it a lot, it couldn't be further from the truth.
It actually only takes one.
One U.S. Senator with the integrity to do the right thing, can easily end "The Madness of King George".
Here's how...
Every single Senator has the power to put a secret hold on any motion up for consideration by the Senate. From Wikipedia, "A secret hold is a parliamentary procedure within the Standing Rules of the Senate within the United States Senate that allows one or more Senators to anonymously prevent a motion from reaching a vote on the Senate floor."
That pretty much speaks for itself. Every U.S. senator who refuses to use this power and enforce the will of the people of both IRAQ and the United States, is just as guilty as George Bush. The majority of both populations, the IRAQ study group, and numerous retired generals all feel we need to get out of IRAQ to regain stability in the region. The only person keeping us there is a coked out, spoiled 2 year old brat type, who also happens to be one thoroughly incompetent, stuttering dry drunk.
It's time for the U.S. Senate to stop being "Good Little Germans" as Frank Rich espoused, and start adhering to the principles that made America free and great. Restore the rule of law while simultaneously stopping the IRAQ war. The time to do it is now, not January 2009. There is far too much damage that Bush will continue to do unless stopped.
I left voice messages with 20 Democratic Senators this weekend informing them of this power. I intend to call them out on this power if I hear them tow the ridiculous 60 votes nonsense.
Remember, it just takes one Senator to end the IRAQ war and prevent every piece of insane Bush legislation from ever becoming law.
Honestly, you'd have to be a lot dumber than George Bush to think it takes 60.
Edit: For those that called me naive and uniformed, I say Chris Dodd's action today speaks as my big I told you so...
