What with the recent attention of the House toward the Armenian Genocide, I was wondering how long someone would bring up another historical wrong the Congress hasn't acknowledged: an apology for slavery and segregation!
And this time, it's being driven by that notorious lefty, Sam Brownback:
"They were federal policies," Brownback told the Boston Globe editorial board. "They were wrong. The only way for us to move forward ... is at the end of day acknowledging those, taking ownership for it, and asking for forgiveness."
I've long thought that the apology was unnecessary and a bit bogus, as these things need to happen on time. Apologizing for slavery long after all the slaves are dead is a lot of busy work with no real payoff. But, at least it won't get additional US soldiers killed in the next few months, so it's a far better idea than that ill-advised genocide resolution.
