On Wednesday, October 17, the House Judiciary is holding a hearing with the fear based title, "Sex Crimes and the Internet: Danger is Just a Click Away".
The witness list was just released late this afternoon, but no prepared statements have been posted. Since some of the same names and organizations will be testifying, and most follow a script, the testimony should be similar to previous hearings. Which means the Committee will be getting something less than the full picture.
With that in mind, I respectfully offer a list of questions for the Committee's discretion.
For the FBI:
- Why are the British having so much trouble with the evidence you gave them from the Landslide investigation, which is claimed as a success story?
- Why did the FBI wait two years after they were notified to investigate the international child porn organization known as Regpay? And why were cease and desist letters sent to them? And why is the Michigan AG's office denying they sent the letters?
- Are pixelled images of child porn illegal? If so, then why did your boss and Alberto Gonzales pass these images around to civilian businessmen?
- Has Georgia DA David McDade been charged yet with production and distribution of child porn?
- Is Tove Jensen material child porn, and if so, why is the DOJ allowing companies to profit from these images?
For Michelle Collins-NCMEC:
- Why does NCMEC continue to cite to the McKinsey Report in support of the claim that commercial Internet child porn is a multi-billion dollar enterprise, after McKinsey denied being responsible for any statistics?
- What law allows NCMEC to search for and evaluate Internet child porn material, as testified to by Ernie Allen on several occasions?
- Why doesn't NCMEC break down their Cyber Tipline numbers into a workable statistical analysis, similar to the Internet Watch Foundation (pdf)? And why does Ernie Allen disagree with their numbers regarding the percentage of British facilities hosting child porn websites?
For Anyone:
- Why are Registrars allowed to register and profit from child porn website names such as those identified by Ernie Allen?
These hearings were announced back in August, so it's difficult to believe that a witness list and prepared statements could not be posted sooner. It appears the public's attention is not desired, which would make this a scripted hearing. It will be evident within the first ten minutes of tommorrow's hearing.
