I just finished reading an interesting and enlightening post by another Kossack, but am damned if I can remember the key points.
I can always count on Daily Kos participants to post diaries that give me information NO other news source covers. But it often takes a lot of time and effort to get to the key points in those postings. And even MORE time and effort to remember them.
Low readability can reduce the EFFECTIVE substance of even the most interesting and insightful postings. Oddly enough, this is one reason why most of us don't have any real idea of what is going on in the minds of the Christian Right. If you try to wade through the impenetrable stuff you find on THEIR sites, your eyeballs would turn inside out.
But the best of their writing is written in simple language, in short sentences, and with a lot of white space. It uses a lot of bullet lists, and very few comma-separated lists.
In short, even if it is intellectually dishonest and morally execrable, it is readable and memorable.
We need to emulate that readability and memorability. In my spare time, I do freelance writing and copy editing. I imagine that lots of others do the same. I think we need to organize a network of volunteer editors who can help other posters sharpen their messages. I am willing to participate in such a network, if others can take the time to filter and route the requests.
