If I understood Nancy Pelosi correctly, her main feelings about the war right now are that it is George Bush's fault. I don't think that's enough. And I must advocate immediately for her removal if the Democrats want to be a party that represent the people - who demand we get out of Iraq.
I personally, can't let myself off saying it is only Bush's bad karma. I will incur bad karma too if I don't do what I can to stop it. So will Nancy.
So ...
I hold no gavel in the U.S. House of Representatives, but as a citizen, I will speak out.
I posted a bulletin on MySpace earlier titled "I Ain't Marchin' Anymore" which said
In 1965 Phil Ochs sang the song, "I Ain't Marchin' Anymore."
In this powerful song, the lyrics express his own responsibility of being part of the system perpetrating the violence of the Vietnam War. But he commits himself to stop being a party to the insanity.
I am asking myself lately what more I can do to stop the Iraq war NOW. I hope you are too.
Please don't take this as a political or preachy message. It just seems the right thing for us all to work together in loving, peaceful ways to stop the senseless violence fast!
I'll share some of the lyrics of Ochs' song here at DailyKos:
It's always the old to lead us to the war,
always the young to fall.
Now look at all we've won with the saber and the gun:
Tell me is it worth it all?
...
For I flew the final mission in the Japanese sky,
Set off the mighty mushroom roar,
When I saw the cities burning I knew that I was learning
That I ain't marchin' anymore!
...
Call it "Peace" or call it "Treason,"
Call it "Love" or call it "Reason,"
But I ain't marchin' any more;
No I ain't marchin' any more.
I like the responsibility Phil takes. I don't like how Nancy shirks hers.
I must try to take mine. This is speaking out. I will also vote. Are we together?
I will very much enjoy comments on this diary about what you all are doing to stop this war, and ideas for me for how I can do more too.
