As absolutely everyone (who is anyone) knows, Pete Stark recently told the Essential Truth about George W. Bush and implied that the President is essentially a conscience-free sociopath. House Speaker Pelosi fell all over herself complaining about Stark's lack of manners.
Bad move.
What she should have done, of course, is kept her mouth shut. Given that she's Nancy Pelosi, that's the BEST one can expect under the circumstances. But instead, she reverted to form and distanced herself from Stark---and much of the Dem base. Given that Harry Reid will soon be on the ropes thanks to Chris Dodd's home run against the Telecom Giants, this is not something the Dem management needs right now.
Which, of course, is what every real, non-capitulating, non-weenie Democrat needs right now.
So expect this:
- Pelosi (and Reid)go into seclusion until the Stark Truth incident blows over. Except it won't. Repub Fifth Columnists secretly working for real Dems will push this to the limit.
- Someone besides the Kossacks will wonder out loud: "Why the hell isn't there more Stark Truth spoken by the Democratic leadership?"
- Someone other than Pete Stark---okay, maybe Pete himself--will point out what everyone already knows--that Bush DOES exhibit many of the traits of a sociopath. Read his interview with Tucker Carlson about Karla Faye Tucker. The guy is crawling with nastiness. And then there's that X-File bonus: The strange two-year gap in his past. Think about this: we know more about John Adams had for breakfast than about Bush's Missing Years in the Military. Creepy doesn't even begin to describe this guy.
- At some point A Significant Number of Real People will nod and say, "Yeah. Stark is right." Note to Nancy: when that tipping point happens, the train will already be out of the station, and you'll be just a minor note in the Wikipedia.
Note II to Nancy and Harry: Face it. The Stark Truth is the Real Truth---you really don't want to be the last to acknowledge it.
