Thanks to the dedicated live-bloggers here at DKos, we have a fuller picture of reality in SoCal today. Not so for those watching CNN, MSNBC, et al on their cable today. Don't get me wrong, the "breaking" banner is all over the place: school sex predators, mystery packages at Dulles, & oh yeah, that quarter million folks forced out of their homes by raging fires that will likely burn all the way to the sea by the time the abnormally strong Santa Ana winds slow down tomorrow. Yeah, that's news too. Now back to Britney & Kid Rock...
What can we do about it? Follow me over the fold...
Has there been one shot of an evacuation center? Any fly overs of the jammed highways? Anyone getting the word out to a national audience that voluteers are needed at Qualcom to help deal with the scared kids and shocked parents and that office supplies for the message center would come in handy? No, none. I have flipped channels & looked at the live feeds all day, wondering when we are going to see the true picture of what's happening to our fellow Americans. But, I do not think we are going to. Maybe they are saving it all up for prime time ratings.
Once again the mesage comes clear. The Disney-fication of our media, the great "4th Estate" our democracy's planners spoke of, is complete. Time for the reality-based media to take over. Make this diary the repository for links to what's really going on in SoCal today. Post the links to the vids & blogs of the real journalists who are out there.
BTW, I know there is a great Mothership diary going on full of resources & messages for those in the line of the fire. Please go rec it so it can stay accessible to those who need it. I did this diary because I didn't want to jam it up.
