What's the difference between the way New Orleans was treated after Katrina vs. the way California is being treated during the fires? Simple, it's black vs. white.
Okay, as you see the photos of Qualcomm Stadium, with the wi-fi tents and Starbucks Coffee for evacuees, the truth is clear: California disaster victims are getting the 5-star treatment for one simple reason: they're white.
As Katrina victims learned, when you're black, you get shit. It's time we're just honest about the whole thing. Bush wasn't going to lift a finger for black people, no matter what. But, when they're white? He's all over it.
Likewise, corporations are always going to rush to the aid of white people first. Given the circumstances, California's fire victims have been fortunate in the aftermath.
Compare this with the African-Americans who lost their uninsured homes and had nowhere to turn. While all of us feel for the people in California, we have to admit that they are getting a much better deal from Bush and the corporations than New Orleans got.
Unfortunately in America, when you're someone who's in need, one constant still remains: it's good to be white.
