How screwy is the Department of Homeland Security? They can't even figure out what landmarks are American and what aren't (or they don't care). To be fair, it isn't just the DHS responsible, but the State Department & the fine folks at Disney, who created the promo in the first place.
Anyone who visits Niagara Falls will tell you that the Horseshoe Falls - all of it in Canadian territory - is the most spectacular visually of the Falls there. The folks at Disney and the Depts. of State and Homeland Security also apparently agree with this assessment, as they’ve decided their falls suck and have decided to use the Canadian one instead in a newly created tourism promotional video for the US:
Making matters worse, a visitor to the U.S. would not even be able to get the same view of the falls in the video because the scene was shot from a vantage point in Canada, according to Paul Gromosiak, a Niagara Falls, N.Y., historian and author. Also, he said the video leaves out the two cascades that actually are on U.S. territory, the American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls. "This is not the United States, this is 100 per cent Canada, shot from the Canadian side. This is an insult," Gromosiak said after reviewing the video at the request of The Associated Press
So, none of Disney, nor the Departments of State or Homeland Security, nor Bush lackey Karen Hughes (who commissioned the video) knew that the Horseshoe Falls was all in Canadian territory. I have to say I’m more surprised Disney didn’t realize this then the dimwits in the Bush Administration.
