Just after the last out of the World Series, Tom Tancredo announced that he would not run for his Congressional seat again, regardless of the outcome of his Presidential bid. Apparently, he has lost the fire in the belly. Or so he says.
More below the fold.
Even if he loses his long-shot bid for the White House, Rep. Tom Tancredo will be leaving the U.S. House of Representatives at the end of 2008.
Tancredo, 61 , waited until after the Colorado Rockies' last out of the World Series on Sunday night before announcing that he plans to retire from Congress at the end of this, his fifth term.
"It's the fact that I really believe I have done all I can do in the House, especially about the issue (immigration) about which I care greatly," he said.
Tancredo said other people are now taking up leadership on the immigration issue.
On a personal note, he added, "I am certainly looking forward to a time when at least a week can go by when I don't have to get on an airplane."

Though it goes on to say that he might run for the senate in 2010 against Incumbent Ken Salazar (D-CO). If he did, that would fly in the face of what he said here, because a statewide senate race would not be easy, especially considering he has barely campaigned the last few cycles for a seat in a district in which he has been able to get at least 60% of the vote. Furthermore, I don't see any way that Tancredo could beat Ken Salazar. Salazar would crush him.
As for Tancredo leaving the house: Good riddance.
I live in his district and whether or not I stay, at least I won't have him as my congressman after 2008.
