Via the New York Times, the AP reports McCain Backs Off Clinton Critique. The critique? That Clinton is too indecisive on Iraq. Now McCain has decided not to include his remarks in a speech he will give today -- remarks that, apparently, he had not even seen before his campaign announced them to the press.

McCain's planned criticism of Clinton was pretty much along the lines of what you see here at Daily Kos -- he planned to say she voted for the war but is now, sort of, against it. And he used that word so despised by people here: triangulation.
It's not clear to me why the remarks have been withdrawn. The campaign issued a nonsensical excuse that the venue for the speech (a military academy for seventh to twelfth graders) was "not appropriate". Why it isn't considered appropriate for previously released remarks isn't stated.
What is clear however is:
Late Tuesday, McCain said he had not yet seen the remarks. "But I will look at them very carefully"' he said.
Buchanan said while McCain had not seen the language in the speech about Clinton, he still planned to deliver the critique. She said Wednesday that he would not.
Who the heck is running this joke of a campaign? First person remarks directly attacking the Democratic front runner released to the press without being vetted by the candidate? And the candidate admitting that? Yeah, John, you just look at those remarks very carefully, why don't you? And while you're at it, why don't you look at your platform very carefully too. Because who knows who wrote it and what it says?
I'm sure some Republicans are asking themselves -- with candidates like this, who needs Democrats?
