I never thought I'd see the day when suddenly out of nowhere I'm the intrepid blogging reporter who is responsible for breaking Google news stories. See, I just have never had any authority before now. Never really particularly wanted it either. There are a lot of bloggers around who are much better writers and reports than I am. Hat tips to all those of them who are actually trying to restore our country to what we once thought it was. But then one spooky Hallowe'en, along came Bradblog, Google news and the ghost of Sibel Edmonds and they changed my life forever (well, hopefully not).
Read more below the fold.
Here's how it all happened, more or less. I felt strongly that in order to actually be able to hear what FBI whistleblower Sibel Edmonds, 'the most gagged person in US history', is now ready to risk prison in order to tell the American people on national television, ordinary citizens like myself would need to publicize this story. So, I started watching for it in news items in the major search engines, thinking that a most emailed yahoo news story about it (for example) might put enough heat on that she might actually hear back from the MSM about her offer.
Enter Google news. Despite the fact that Bradblog's exclusive story on this breaking news was wildly popular here at DKos while it was running in a diary, made the top of the greatest list at Democratic Underground, was way high on Digg, was also blogged @ HuffPo etc., etc. Google news on the defualt setting thought a 2 week old story by Bradblog which mentioned Sibel was the most relevant return for news searchers wanting news on Sibel Edmonds. So I've been taking some screenshots and continued to blog about it. And, lo and behold, Bradblog picked up on it and it's now on Google news that the story appears to be buried. But the story itself still appears to be buried to a default search. You currently have to look here for instance to find the "actual newsworthy story" at all. Though, I suppose Google apparently burying a story (digg it up, please, and also the story on the burying of the story, if that's not to meta for you) could be considered newsworthy in some circles.
Who ya gonna call? Google Busters. Think about Stephen Colbert's video which wasn't newsworthy until suddenly it was. That would be up to y'all, of course.
Better run Google (I hope). Otherwise, we are on an unslow boat to China, at least IMO.
Happy Hallowe'en.
Boo.
