Yes, NEOLIBERALSIM supports the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and other "New World Order" institutions. The monetary policies have decimated many countries, especially in South America, even to PRIVATIZE WATER! Their game is to get foreign governments to take out loans for "development" projects, then open up that country to multinational corporations and "privatize" resources. The multinationals go in there, take what they want and many times leave an ecological and/or economic disaster. The governments usually have no way to pay back the loans they took out, so the carrot of MORE "free market" involvement becomes a never-ending spiral of debt and destruction while the local citizens suffer.

Referendum in Costa Rica: Countdown to CAFTA? at UpsideDownWorld
The vote will determine whether the country joins its neighbors in forming a NAFTA-like relationship with the U.S., with 80 percent of tariffs reduced, imports greatly increased and state industries opened to privatization and foreign investment.

The Stop CAFTA Coalition announces the release of DR-CAFTA Year Two: Trends and Impacts, its second report on the effects of the U.S.-Dominican Republic-Central American Free Trade Agreement (DR-CAFTA) trade agreement on the majority of people in the region.

For the first time in the history of world, a voting population will have the opportunity to vote on a free trade agreement in a referendum. Costa Rican voters will be asked to decide whether or not to accept CAFTA. The referendum is is set to take place on October 7, 2007, and if more than 30% of the voting population turns out for the vote, the results could be considered legally binding.
My Canadian friend 'bina becker had this to add:
And yeah, the Costa Rica thing totally bipped on my radar tonight. Just been reading at BoRev.net about it:
http://www.borev.net/...
The Bush Administration thinks it’s adorable that Costa Ricans actually thought that they would let them "vote" on a trade agreement.
BoRev also linkies this linkie:

Shocking use of dirty trickery, but what a surprise, eh?
I sure hope that Costa Rica, if it doesn't want to end up turning into Costa Pobre overnight, rejects this bullshit. "Free" trade agreements are not about freedom OR trade, they're basically just unilateral slave-auctions.
It would look good on the dirty tricksters if an overwhelming majority of Costa Ricans decided to vote for the candidate most likely to ally himself with Chavecito in the next election, too.
We may not be able to affect the outcome of this vote at this late date, but we CAN affect any US legislation going forward. Please send this info to your lists as you see fit. This issue WILL affect every one of us, now and in the future.
THIS IS HUGE! Senator Bernie Sanders told us on Friday's Thom Hartmann Show (10-05-07) Friday that the polling is leaning toward 'no' despite the massive pro-CAFTA-western-corporo media blitz.
imo Costa Rica is THE canary in the free-trade coal mine. If you read through all the links I've provided, you'll understand what is at stake: copyrights, legal standing to sue, environmental protection and more.
CAFTA is BAD! Worse than NAFTA! And WE'RE NEXT!
