First I want to say that I support Hillary's campaign. I have many reasons. She is by far the most electable democrat. She would by far make the best president. But I want to say something here. I am glad that Obama, Edwards and all of the others are being so hard on her. She is the most qualified democrat. No non-incumbent democrat in generations has been as prepared to fight the republican machine as her. This is her final training. Voting starts two months from Saturday. Bush (supposedly) leaves office in 15 months. A Giuliani administration would be worse than the Bush "administration." Giuliani, who is closer ideologically to Cheney than he is to Bush, would finish the job at destroying what is left of the constitution. This isn't acceptable. This country hasn't lasted for 220 years to see some low mayor destroy it. Because of the attacks, Hillary is almost ready to take on the SOB.
Hillary's campaign may complain about the attacks. They may say that focusing 50% of the questions the other night on her is unfair, despite her being the runaway frontrunner. She needs this. I have no doubt that she shares this opinion. 30 years of political experience have come down to this. The republic is in serious trouble, and only she will be able to save it. All of that 30 years of experience will be used to save us from the abyss we are on the verge of falling into. This is the abyss that Giuliani would push us into if we don't stop him. Hillary is by far the most able to stop him.
Electing Giuliani would be national suicide. We all know that. Voters are starting to realize this, given his tanking favorability numbers. Joe Biden mentioned him the other night, using extremely solid (and obvious) attacks on him. He has no experience. All he has is 9/11. Few of the accomplishments he claims (such as the reduction in crime in NYC) can be attributed to him on a closer analysis.
But Obama and Edwards don't have as much of an advantage against him on experience as does Hillary. Hillary will have been a senator for 8 years in 2008 (almost as much as Obama and Edwards combined). But the 20 years of experience as first lady of Arkansas and the US animates this all. Her time in the senate turns experience that normally doesn't qualify you to be president, into something that does. The fact that she has won on her own right twice makes all of her first lady experience directly relevant.
Obama and Edwards have helped her chances of beating Giuliani by an incalculable amount. Obama and Edwards are extremely solid candidates. If either had run, and been this strong, in 2004, they would have won the nomination. The fact that Hillary won two elections by landslides, and then goes on to beat candidates as solid and substantive as Obama and Edwards doesn't just prove how electable she is, it makes her more able to win the general election. Because of that, I say thank you Obama and Edwards.
We have to win this one. We can't lose. The country won't survive a Giuliani administration. Hillary is most able to do that. And in these last two months, she is finishing her work towards becoming the one democrat who can save this nation.
