I came to Daily Kos to promote AIDS awareness in the certain knowledge that Dems would do more reduce the more than 2.6 million deaths from AIDS every year.
And to end the illegal rule of George Bush.
The bizarre accusation that this community tolerates or supports racism is a charge I'd expect from Fox News. But, no, there are some in the community who believe that by extending tolerance to one member who blew it badly a few weeks ago, that somehow the community is granting everyone 'one free racist diary'.
This farcical accusation won support from just a few folks, but the accusations point to a different kind of problem.
Anyway, I'm hoping that just a fraction of all the folks who believe so strongly that HM should be banned, or who believe that Obama should apologize for hiring a anti-gay bigot will give my reaction to the original HM diary a read.
A Blast of Hot Air: Racism at DKOS
Feeling exercised over the racism at Daily Kos?
Let me distract you.
It might interest you to know that African-American women contract HIV at higher rates than nearly any other group.
There is, of course, nothing at all remotely racist about ignoring the plight of these folks, and nothing inhumane or grotesque about taking the issue of 'black-face' really, really seriously.
And if you don't find the growth in the number of HIV positive African-American women enough of a distraction.
How about the 2.6 million mostly brown and black women and children who are going to die mostly preventable deaths from AIDS this year?
And the 2.6 million who died last year.
And the 2.6 to 3.2 million who are going to die next year.
They'll still be dead, but at least there'll be no-more black-face diaries at Daily Kos.
The umbrage of the pure over HM's vile diary is a timely reminder that raging about black-face is one way to express 'solidarity' with people of color.
One of the many others is to click on my sig-line or on the AIDS donations button on my blog-roll.
You won't get much mojo, but you'll definitely save a few lives.
We all have our priorities. I'll say thanks now to everyone here for their compassion.
