We could be driving gas powered cars, only no one believed, we could be driving electric cars, only no one wanted them. Now there is possibly the largest natural gas field and carbon reserve in the world right in my backyard here in Fort Worth. Imagine paying as little as $1.25 for gas with a gas-powered car (see below). Would you buy such a car? Take poll.
The natural gas is there, only the natural investors are needed to push this source of nearly unlimited energy. http://www.mywesttexas.com/... In addition, there are "oil field super centers" with players such as Haliburton. http://dallas.bizjournals.com/...
In an area just northof where I live is the core, lies the Barnett Shale believed to be the richest natural gas field, possibly ever. That means that there is coming energy, wealth, and distrubution of this huge energy. Because it is shale there were problems getting to the gas at first, but with horizontal drilling.
What has made it possible is horizontal drilling (from Wikipedia:)
As of 2007, recent advances in the technology of horizontal drilling have opened up the potential of the Barnett Shale as a major producer of natural gas. Horizontal drilling has changed the way oil and gas drilling is done by allowing producers to drill horizontally beneath neighbourhoods, schools and airports. Since much of the gas in the Barnett Shale is lodged beneath the City of Fort Worth, this new drilling technology has created a boom for the city. The new technology has brought in a tremendous number of independent producers both large and small.

Instead, you would pump a fuel that's readily available, North American-produced and virtually pollution-free. Many motorists could even fill up in their own garages every night just like they would power-up with one of the gas-electric plug-in hybrids still under development.

Now, what if this magical car were available today, and no one cared. Not government officials. Not auto executives. Not consumers. Not even some environmentalists.
The natural gas, potential for a preferred source of energy, and less dependence on foreign oil is there, only natural investors are lacking.
There is a bonanza in our backyard. We have the energy, the will, and the eyes on the prize in this country. Here they are able to use the money to fuel more technology in the classrooms.
A 600 million dollar bond package has passed here to get technology in the classrooms. Google is coming to your class soon. http://www.star-telegram.com/...
