That diary title is intended without irony; we hope that commenters will proceed in that spirit.
We've gotten contacted today by people who have asked us if we know about this story, making the rounds via AP and evidently on CNN, discussing the disappearance yesterday of three of Rep. Gary Miller's grandchildren. Yes, we have, and after some thought we feel that a short comment is appropriate. We'll defer political announcements and discussion for a future day.
The most important aspects of the story are below:
The children were reported missing at about 1:30 p.m Monday from their Diamond Bar residence east of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County sheriff's officials said.
Investigators were looking into whether the children were taken by their ''non-custodial mother,'' said sheriff's spokeswoman Deputy Aura Sierra, referring to a parent without custody rights.
Our devout hope is that Rep. Miller's grandchildren's safety and well-being will be promptly secured. If this does turn out to be an intra-family matter, we pray that all involved will act wisely and keep the best interests of the children paramount.
We presume that Rep. Miller neither sought nor welcomes this publicity, and so we want to respect his privacy so far as is possible. We do not intend to have more to say on this matter beyond expressing these hopes -- with the exception of updating this diary to voice our thanks when all this is resolved.
Please do be kind in comments, folks; some things should not be wished upon anyone, and this is one of them. Best Thanksgiving wishes from the Ron Shepston for Congress campaign to our many friends.
