Here is the letter that I wrote:
Dear Honorable Conyers, Jr.
Before my dad was convicted, sentenced, and imprisoned, I held faith that the justice department would catch light of the conspiracy that brought him out of public office. After my dad was taken away...my naiveté shattered, and I was left with a cold realization that the justice department had no intention of ever revealing the truth. My only consolation was my belief that all this could be, somehow, turned around.
I knew that God was testing us. In fact, I've learned to see all of life as a test. It is God's assessment of our character, mental acumen, adroitness, and faith. It is a test in which cheating really does get you expelled and studying improves your standing. A test that allows us retake and correct our mistakes. Humans did not opt to take this class on life, much less the final exam. Yet we all have the opportunity to score high.
I am writing to you because I am Don Siegelman's daughter, and I wanted to thank you for investigating my dad's case. I am praying that the truth will be brought to light in a big way. That with this truth we free those who have been wrongfully prosecuted, and more than just "getting the bad guys," we use these crucial incidences to return America to its former reverence. I want to trust in our justice system again and believe in the administrations that continue to run our government. I know that you can help bring honor back into American politics.
God bless you.
Sincerely,
Dana Siegelman
