Adding to his astounding charge that veterans commit fraud, Campbell is developing a record of voting against veterans at every turn. Campbell was one of a extremeist minority of two House members to vote against this year’s Veterans Affairs funding measure (House Roll Call 498).
A San Diego radio station reported that Campbell justified his vote saying, "the money won't help." Campbell opposed funding allegedly because "there are too many internal problems in the VA system."
Campbell: "It is not a well-managed organization. And if something isn't well-managed, the last thing you do is give them more money. You make them get their management act together first because if you give a mismanaged organization more money they will simply mismanage it."
Last year, when Republicans drafted the Veterans’ funding bill Campbell had no problem for Veterans Affairs funding. (See 2006, Roll Call 176). That bill passed unanimously with Democratic support. Everyone in congress, except Campbell, recognizes that veterans must not fall prey to partisan politics.
Campbell’s hostility to veterans runs deep. Just last week Campbell voted against a bill giving severely disabled veterans special consideration by the Small Business Administration. (Oct. 30, Roll Call Vote 1017).
Campbell wants us to believe he supports our soldiers, but does nothing to give them hope that we will support them after their tours of duty. He does not recognize that the soldiers earned our support.
Campbell, whose hobby is civil war re-enactments, apparently learned that after battles, the injured and dead soldiers sit up, brush themselves off, and slap each other on the back on the way off the "battlefield." Apparently Campbell’s make-believe military experience leads him to believe that our soldiers’ wounds are make believe. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, "We need leaders who stand behind veterans, rather than just posing with soldiers."
Support our efforts unseat Campbell. Contribute at Vets.
Thank you,
