The campaign of State Senator Andrew Rice, who is taking on Jim Inhofe for U.S. Senate, has been building momentum over the past months.
Chair of the DSCC, Sen. Chuck Schumer, said in early November (from THE HILL.):
With Senate Democrats’ growing list of pickup opportunities in 2008, state Sen. Andrew Rice’s (D) uphill campaign for Sen. James Inhofe’s (R) seat has flown largely under the radar. But it appears Democratic leaders and his opponents are starting to take notice.
At a briefing with reporters on Wednesday, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chairman Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) suggested Rice might make the state competitive.
Rice raised about $310,000 in the third quarter, a figure Schumer found encouraging.
"State Sen. Rice in Oklahoma is a good candidate," Schumer said. "He’s going to surprise people."
Also, Sen. Jon Tester and Sen. Blanche Lincoln were set to fly into Oklahoma City this past monday for a fundraiser for Sen. Rice and the DSCC, but it was cancelled due to the devastating Ice Storms that hit Oklahoma on Sunday and Monday of this week.
Meanwhile, Jim Inhofe remains on island by himself within his own party, by gearing up to filibuster a Republican bill that will confront climate change and carbon emmissions:
"The Senate’s Environment and Public Works Committee voted the bill out this month. It will face a floor filibuster from Oklahoma Republican Sen. James Inhofe, an oil-state senator who refuses to believe the obvious - that man is contributing to global warming."
