In what can only be described as another blatant indulgence of "open" secrecy and complete contempt of justice, the Bush Administration has asked the Judge in the CIA torture tape investigation, not to even bother looking into the matter.
From the AP:
The Bush administration told a federal judge it was not obligated to preserve videotapes of CIA interrogations of suspected terrorists and urged the court not to look into the tapes' destruction.
Apparently the administration wants to let the Justice Department investigation go on without any "interference" by a pesky Judge. I mean we've got Michael "I'm not sure if waterboarding is torture" Mukasey on it, so why bother with having another body even get involved.
Kennedy ordered the administration in June 2005 to safeguard "all evidence and information regarding the torture, mistreatment, and abuse of detainees now at the United States Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay."
Well that worked a treat! Just how long are we going to put up with this shit? It's not even being done under any semblance of security or proper jurisprudence; just simple "fuck you, we'll investigate ourselves thank you".
Attorney General Michael Mukasey also refused to give Congress details of the government's investigation into the matter Friday, saying doing so could raise questions about whether the inquiry was vulnerable to political pressure.
No, actually it wouldn't Micky. If you're going about your business in an objective manner and one which has the people's (you remember them don't you? the ones who you supposedly working for) best interests as itsprinciple, then political pressure shouldn't even be a consideration.
How many times can these criminals get away with this? Just how long do we suffer? Until January 2009? I'm afraid it will take much longer to heal and mend what has been broken and bent by these crooks.
