"Sunday, December 16
Dear friends,
Dan left us this morning at 6:00am . He fought a brave battle with cancer and died peacefully at home in Maine with his wife Jean at his side. His strength, dignity, and grace in the face of the daunting challenges of this disease were an inspiration to all who knew him."
More after the fold.
An outpouring of love and support from his fans followed his discovery in 2004 that he had been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, an unyielding illness. In a statement then Dan replied to his many fans. "It is truly overwhelming and humbling to realize how many lives my music has touched so deeply all these years. ... I thank you from the very depths of my heart."
Dan had several platinum and multi-platinum albums during the 70’s and 80’s and may be best remembered for his single hits "Same Old Lang Syne", "The Power of Gold". and "Leader of the Band" which was a tribute to his father.
I had an opportunity to see Dan in concert at Moby Gym in Fort Collins, Colorado in 1983 and was amazed that his concert music duplicated his albums in every detail. My favorite Dan Fogelberg albums remain to be "Twin Sons of Different Mothers" and "Phoenix." My favorite singles are "Paris Nocturne" and "Since You’ve Asked." He touched me with his music in a way that no other artist ever had and he will be sorely missed but remembered and loved.
My prayers are with Dan, his wife Jean, and family tonight. I will not be responding to comments tonight as Dan belonged to the World and not to this diarist. A humble tribute to Dan Fogelberg.
