Thaddeus McCotter (MI-11), aka Thinskinned McCrybaby, is head of the House Republicon Policy Committee. His entire job revolves around telling his Republicon cohorts how to vote and which issues to support.
A few days ago McCotter gave a speech on the House floor in the hopes that his party will save itself by doing everything it did in 2006, save the earmarks for corporations.
Most of the speech was about what McCotter called "The Cashocracy" (along with a lot of Reagan worship), the idea that the GOP sold out in the name of corporate interests, and did so at the expense of the middle class.
More below the fold
Of course McCotter is a huge hypocrite in this, as a previous post on showed that McCotter had received huge sums of money from people who would love to see SCHIP die a horrible death. He's also taken money from both Tom DeLay and Bob Ney, so don't expect McLiar to change his moneygrubbing ways. He won't.
But moving on. Throughout the speech, McCotter laid out four core pricipals that the GOP must return to (IOW, don’t stop doing) in order to save themselves. They are:
- Empower the sovereign American people to protect and promote their God-given and constitutionally recognized and protected rights.
Translation: Continue to exploit religion and fight for the right of the government to interfere with your church, and your church with the government.
- Promote the decentralization of federal governmental powers to the American people or to their most appropriate and closest unit of government.
Translation: Continue to make the government completely ineffective. This means no universal healthcare for you. And if you get stuck in a hurricane, tough cookies. You can drown.
- Defend Americans’ enduring moral order of faith, family, community and country from all enemies.
Translation: Continue to blame Democrats for anything related to sex, while Republicans continue to visit men in airport bathrooms.
- Foster a dynamic market economy of entrepreneurial opportunity for all Americans.
Translation: ....If they’re white and rich. Everybody else can stand in the soup line. Oh wait, we’re cutting funding for the soup kitchen. You’ll just starve.
- Honor and nurture a "humanity of scale" in Americans’ relations and endeavors.
Translation: In relation to 1-4, this simply means that you keep doing what you’re doing: Tell poor people they should be happy to be poor. Otherwise they’re being greedy. Help rich people to get richer, and when the poor complain tell them it’s to better the economy. Twist biblical texts to exploit the religions of the masses to get them to shutup and not realize that they’re being hoodwinked.
