Much promotion has been done of the movie, An Inconvenient Truth. However, Mr. Gore's companion book, An Inconvenient Truth/The Planetary Emergency of Global Warming and What We Can Do About It, goes on sale today nationwide as well. More about that, my review of his appearance on TODAY this morning, and future scheduled appearances below.
Much promotion has been done of the movie, An Inconvenient Truth. However, his companion book of the same name goes on sale today nationwide as well. Therefore, if you are near a book store and want to check it out because you can't wait to see the movie or it isn't playing near you please do so. The press release below also lists other appearances and book signings that Mr. Gore is scheduled to do to promote this book. I'm hoping to attend one in NYC should I be able to do so. I have long awaited the chance to shake this great man's hand and tell him just how much of an inspiration he has been to me in my life, and how much I truly appreciate all he has done and is doing now to change the world with this environmental crusade.

Al Gore, Lehman's Roosevelt to Form New Global Warming Alliance
May 10 (Bloomberg) --
Former Vice President Al Gore and Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. Managing Director Theodore Roosevelt IV have formed an alliance to boost public awareness about global warming, people familiar with the plans said.
The alliance, which will be unveiled today, is a diverse group that includes bankers like Roosevelt, Viacom Inc.'s Paramount Pictures, former Georgia-Pacific Corp. President Lee Thomas, and former Environmental Protection Agency chief Carol Browner, said the people, who asked not to be identified. Paramount, which plans to release a documentary later this month about climate change featuring Gore, will contribute $500,000 to the new nonprofit group, called the Alliance for Climate Protection. Gore, 58, will donate the $250,000 advance from his yet-to-be published book ``An Inconvenient Truth,'' which is the same name as the movie, the people said.
The money will be used to begin an educational campaign about the threat of global warming across all media. The idea to corral Wall Street, business executives and former public officials into one alliance stems from the belief that environmental groups alone aren't doing enough to alert the public to the dangers of global warming, the people said. The alliance's board members will include Brent Scowcroft, national security adviser to President George H.W. Bush during the 1991 Gulf War; Thomas, who was president of Georgia-Pacific until last year and served as EPA chief under President Ronald Reagan; and Browner who served under President Bill Clinton, the people said. Roosevelt, 63, a Republican and great-grandson of the 26th U.S. president, will serve as a co-chairman. Gore, Roosevelt and Paramount officials didn't immediately return calls seeking comment. Scowcroft, Thomas and Browner also didn't return telephone messages.
Changing Minds
Researchers including NASA's top climate scientist, James Hansen, say carbon dioxide and greenhouse-gas pollution from cars, power plants and other human activity is leading to hotter temperatures that are triggering more powerful storms and extreme weather.
The Bush administration has so far questioned conventional theories about the existence, cause or severity of climate change and has declined to make policy changes that would greatly increase limits on pollution. Senator James Inhofe, an Oklahoma Republican and head of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, called man-made global warming a ``hoax'' in 2003 and last month said he opposes mandatory limit on carbon emissions because the restrictions could result in higher energy prices.
The Gore-Roosevelt group is seeking to combat such sentiments in Washington by enlisting the broad-based support of lawmakers, religious leaders, the agriculture industry, manufacturers and labor groups, the people said. There also are talks with a couple ``high-profile'' Republicans about joining the alliance, one person said.
Environmental Bandwagon
The campaign comes as more Republican lawmakers, corporate executives, investors, insurers and evangelical Christians are calling for President George W. Bush and Congress to take more aggressive action to combat global warming. In 2001, Bush rejected the international Kyoto Protocol that restricts carbon emissions because he said it would make U.S. businesses less competitive and cost jobs. Instead, Bush has called on companies to reduce greenhouse gasses voluntarily while his administration studies the issue further.

I also saw Mr. Gore speaking with Katie Couric this morning on TODAY. The conversation was about the climate crisis with a clip of the movie showing Kilimanjaro. It was a good piece with him saying much the same as he has in every interview about the movie up to now. Although, Katie Couric told him that some people will dismiss him from the get go, and in reality that needed to said. Some people out here I have talked to have also done that because their last perception of him was 2000 and the election fiasco. One woman downright did not like him at all and found him to be arrogant. What can you say? I try to then approach it from the environmental importance of what he is doing and in a few cases that has worked in regards to people saying they will go see this movie.
That is why I don't believe he will run again (because he doesn't see anything really changing yet in any scene) but those refusing to look at things realistically don't seem to want to bother with those details. However, they do matter especially regarding something as important as this. People need to get beyond any perceptions of him they may have from this media and see this movie based on the crucial issue it is about. And hopefully after seeing this movie they will also see how wrong they were about him as a man and how duped they were by this media.
And of course, she asked the question of him if he were running and he gave the same answer on that as well... and I don't see it as him lying or being coy, but I also do not see it as him saying he is running either. I understand where he is coming from in answering this way because I too spent many years in a profession in which I saw and experienced things that made me no longer wish to be a part of it. But then, I could never say I would NEVER EVER think to not go back to doing that work, simply from the standpoint of never burning bridges and thinking how it is run could change. But would I go back now? Hell no.
So there wasn't really anything new to it if you have been following all of the news about it except that he got to market this movie to a NY audience since it opens today in a couple of selected theatres. One can only now hope that this reaches enough people to have this movie played in many other cities.
People NEED to see this movie and if they can't, to buy this book. They need to realize that what we are doing to our only home is hurting her and us but also see that there is still hope and still time to work together to save her for our future. The beauty and mystery of this world is too important to preserve to not care about her. Al Gore sees this, as do I, and as many others do. To be able to impart that message to millions around the world to ignite the greatest humanitarian campaign in history for our world would truly be a life's dream fulfilled for Mr. Gore. I hope he sees it. I hope we all do.
GOOD LUCK TODAY, MR. GORE. And good luck, Mother Earth. May we see the error of our ways and begin to pay the homage to you for the sustinence you provide us that you deserve.
