If you're like me, you're going totally apeshit about how incredibly sovereign the Al-Maliki government in Iraq has been these days. It's like, every day, we think: "Surely the Iraqi government couldn't further impress me with how totally sovereignofied it is." I mean, nothing says "sovereignity" like being occupied by a foreign army. But once again, like some sort of awesome sovereignacious Christmas miracle, Al-Maliki and President Bush have shown us the true meaning of the phrase "sovereigning it up".
Bush, Maliki Break Iraqi Law to Renew U.N.
Mandate for Occupation

A majority of Iraqi lawmakers say renewal requests not
ratified by the parliament are illegal.
"On Tuesday, the Bush administration and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri
al-Maliki pushed a resolution through the U.N. Security Council
extending the mandate that provides legal cover for foreign troops to
operate in Iraq for another year.
The move violated both the Iraqi constitution and a law passed earlier
this year by the Iraqi parliament -- the only body directly elected by
all those purple-finger-waving Iraqis in 2005 -- and it defied the
will of around 80 percent of the Iraqi population.
Earlier in the week, a group representing a majority of lawmakers in
Iraq's parliament -- a group made up of Sunni, Shiite and secular
leaders -- sent a letter to the Security Council, a rough translation
of which reads: "We reject in the strongest possible terms the
unconditional renewal of the mandate and ask for clear mechanisms to
obligate all foreign troops to completely withdrawal from Iraq
according to an announced timetable."
Now that's what I call sovereigning it up! The sovereign government of the U.S.-occupied sovereign state of Iraq, is so sovereign, that it doesn't even need to follow its own laws!!! What could possibly be more sovereignish than ignoring your own Parliamentary procedures, and outraging your own people, to install a law pushed almost exclusively by the executive branch of the foreign state that's militarily maintenancing your sovereignishness?
You can't buy sovereignativity like that!
Make no mistake folks, like most of the rest of you I understand that sovereignty can only truly come from the craters caused by foreign bombs. So like most people, I was filled with bloodlust and awe at the awesome sovereignification of Iraq, and especially as of late, the maxi-sovereignizing power the Surge. Clearly, you can only build a sovereign state by first razing it to the ground - or into a crater which is technically below ground level.
So I know expectations for sovereignofication were totally huge, but this latest step forward, an Iraqi government so sovereign that (with a little push and a nudge from always helpful Bush Administration) it can sovereignly ignored its own laws?!?!? I swear, you think your mind can't be blown again, but it can folks.
All I can say is: Daaamn! That Maliki government is sovereigning it up!
