I was hoping it wouldn't come to this. My sheets always look dingy. I just can't get them brilliantly white so they look crisp and fresh in the light of the burning Obama effigy.
I've tried bleach. I've tried sun. But it's never enough.
Sigh
You know, I was hoping that Hillary's "Southern Strategy" would just stay under the radar and we wouldn't have to pray for an end of the year white sale.
But those Obama campaign people were right on it. They spotted a pattern that was soooo subtle, even I missed it. Chris Cilizza got the skinny from Obama's camp himself:
From Cilizza's Washington Post article:
These officials, including Clinton aides and prominent surrogates, have raised questions or dropped references about Obama's position on sentencing guidelines for crack vs. powder cocaine offenses; on his handgun control record; and on his admitted use of drugs as a youth. The context was always Obama's "electability." But the Illinois senator's campaign advisers said some African American leaders detect a pattern, and they believe it could erode Clinton's strong base of black of black support.
Damn! They're good.
They certainly know how to filter the signal from the noise. I guess I was just distracted by all of the critiques of Obama's lack of foreign policy bona fides, his less than universal healthcare plan and his selective absences from some very politically sensitive votes. I was on the verge of concluding that Obama might be too easily flattered into running before his time. Or that he was a particularly malleable candidate who is somewhat at the mercy of savvy political types, looking for employment in a new administration. Or that he was a bit too beholden to his wealthy patrons who don't like mandates.
I completely missed the racism angle. For a moment there, I thought that maybe the Obama campaign was just throwing more mock outrage to make it look like Hillary is a bigot. But that would be like using a rebounding-double-half-caf-triple-toe-loop-jujitsu negative campaigning in reverse technique and we all know that Obama's campaign never engages in such things. They don't like to get their hands dirty. They are just unusually good a spotting it in other campaigns. It's unreal, I tell ya'.
But now there is no choice. I'm going to have to break out the sewing machine and make a new hood and robes (like I have time for this with Christmas two days away). After all negative campaigning works. I just didn't think we'd have to go this far.
