It is Christmas Eve, and I cannot sleep. It is not because I am giddy over Santa's arrival or anticipating the treats that await when I arise. I cannot sleep for one simple reason. My dad has to spend Christmas in prison while his conspirators are free to celebrate the holiday with their families. I have but one wish this Christmas. That wish is for everyone who reads this to stop what they are doing or were going to do and to take a few minutes to send one or more letters to the House Judiciary Committee on my dad's behalf.
Thank you!
Here is a sample of what you could say (preferably, in your own words):
Dear Congressman (or woman),
I am a humble observer of the travesty which has occured in our justice system. I have read about the Siegelman case and according to several respectable sources, this man is not guilty. Not only was he set up and prosecuted for purely political reasons, his entire trial was a disgrace. All the laws that should have protected an innocent man from conviction were violated. We cannot excuse the abuse of this administration any more. We cannot turn a blind eye to corruption and hope that time will heal injustice. Siegelman was not the only person selectively prosecuted under this administration. Paul Minor and others are serving time as political prisoners. I am begging you, as an American who cares deeply about the ideals our government was founded on, to continue investigating selective prosecution under this administration. Do not allow this to get swept away with the coming new year. This is the time for positive change.
Thank you,
Sincerely
(Your name)
