How could the Democrats have gotten candidates for the 2008 presidential nominiation as divisive as the Republicans have?
Lets mirror the current Republican Nominees and see what we get.
Romney: Governor (or recent ex-Governor)from a very conservative state, so maybe Brad Henry of Oklahoma or Ronnie Musgrove of Mississippi.
Guiliani: Mayor, not sure how conservative we can get for a big city democratic mayor, so lets go to the other end. Willie Brown or Gavin Newsom of San Francisco. I think Willie Brown is probably best for the Racial angle. (or throw in both for true fun)
Ron Paul: Ralph Nader (only choice here)
Huckabee: His inverse probably overlaps Gavin Newsom, so lets go with another part of the Democratic party: Labor. I'd suggest the current head of the AFL-CIO, John Sweeney, but he came out of the SEIU. Can we come up with someone out of traditional (Steel, Coal, Cars?) Labor?
Thompson: We need a retread expected to bring that parts of the party together, but maybe Al Gore is too respected and too recent. Maybe Walter Mondale? (Though he is respected as well) (Can't think of anyone out of Hollywood).
Any other ideas?
