Now that guilt-by-association diary has descended gracelessly off the rec list, I thought it would be helpful to catalog just how bare of truth and how packed with nonsense it was...one point at a time.
There’s definitely an Obama bandwagon out there – built and pushed by Republican neocons eager to put another right-wing Republican in the White House.
my emphasis
First, if any such bandwagon exists beyond Johnson's imagination, then it is a dinky toy wagon running along side a dozen other unrelated bandwagons. Take the Oprah bandwagon for example, which includes the fans of Oprah motivated to vote for Obama because of her endorsement (polls suggest this is a low number).
Secondly, Obama is a Democrat, Mr. Johnson.
Back in 2000, the Dallas Morning News supported George W. Bush.
In 2004, it did the same.
...
Now the Morning News looks at Obama and sees the same qualities it once saw in Bush.
Apparently, Johnson imagines the Dallas Morning News is the telltale heart for candidates running stealth campaigns to be the next worst president ever.
So...
Why do these outlets and media who have fawned over Bush in the past like Obama so much?
Yes, after highlighting ONE example of Republicans endorsing Obama, Johnson's case rests. For the sake of substance alone, just a couple more examples would have bolstered the point. I mean, if you're going to turn positive press into a liability, at least do a little footwork. Lazy man.
Johnson then goes on to speculate over the negatives his ramshackled case might imply...
Could it be because his positions on the crucial issues of health care and Social Security are closer to those of the Republican right wing than those of any other Democratic contender?
Could it be because his pose of rejecting what the Morning News calls "the divisive politics of the past" make him an easier mark for Republican leaders who still go down the line with the partisan and hyper-divisive George Bush and Dick Cheney?
Yes, if the Dallas Morning News is for Obama, there's something sinister afoot.
Speaking of which, Karl Rove recently wrote a Newsweek piece titled "How to beat Hillary."
By the same leaps of logic, you might suspect there's something sinister afoot by Karl for him to assume Hillary will be the nominee. Ah, but that would be irresponsible speculation. I mean it would take a true fool to base a diary on such a flimsy premise, IMO.
But Johnson isn't done yet...
These Republicans have proved for many, many years that they are all for divisive politics, so as long as it helps the right. So maybe that’s why they are promoting a Democrat who talks like Barack Obama does – and why they loathe the prospect of running against a tested fighters like Hillary Clinton and John Edwards.
Or maybe it’s just that these Republicans just want the Democrats to nominate someone they know will be easy to best. Yes, I know some polls suggest Obama does better in a nationwide match up. If you buy that nonsense let me sell you a bridge.
I can't tell here if Johnson is implying national polls or nonsense or if Obama winning them is, so I think I'll hold off on the bridge purchase...for now.
He continues...
Does anybody seriously doubt that the Dallas Morning News – or the Sioux City Journal or the Weekly Standard--or Karl Rove – who have all hyped Obama, will all support the Republican nominee in the fall election, no matter who that nominee is, over any Democrat?
Speaking of Karl Rove, I've mentioned Karl's Newsweek article before, one may speculate that he's hyping Hillary. I mean people could speculate a lot of crazy shit! Right Mr. Johnson?
It’s the same with the pro-Obama Republicans.
It's unfortunate that Mr. Johnson must lump all pro-Obama Republicans together. He was qualifying the group earlier, but I guess we might as well drop the nuance and get to the point: there exists outlets who promote Obama because he is a trojan-horse candidate. These people are all-knowing and because of their support, we should not fall for this faker.
Yeah, L C Johnson's in the tank with camp Hillary. How do I know? I don't, but the accusation itself is good enough for me.
