Waterloo, Ia. - John Edwards vowed Monday to include Republicans in his Cabinet if he's elected president.
"Here's why: because I'm looking for the strongest, most capable, most independent-minded people I can find. I want people around me who will say, 'You're wrong about this, and you could do grave damage if you do it. Mr. President, you need to change your mind,' " he said. "Because I'm not perfect, I'm capable of making mistakes."
So, John -- you need Republicans to balance your OWN principles? If so, you just simplified my choice for the Dem noninee. And three guesses which one it ain't gonna be.
I'm only saying he should not put someone in BECAUSE he's a Republican. He should put them in because they will likely do the right things. Then, MAYBE a Pug would be ok. But then I would ask why he didn't just pick a Dem with similar ideas.
If he can find a Lincoln Chaffee, more power to him. But I don't think he will -- those guys are very rare.
Republicans of today are not the Republicans of yesteryear. They have shown that in general they can no longer be trusted as guardians of this great nation and servants of the people. ANYONE who is a member of the Republican party TODAY is MUCH more suspect than one from, say, Kennedy's time. Just look at what's happened over the course of the Bush Administration. Just observe.
Edwards WAS my favorite. I went to his breakout session at YearlyKos. I thought he was a breath of fresh air.
Now I'm not so sure.
UPDATE: I've elaborated on my position significantly in roughly fifty comments I made on this thread. Please try to take the time to read them. Thanks.
