So, unless you're Mike Huckabee, you probably heard that there was a National Intelligence Estimate released this past week. In fact, you probably even know that it was bad for President Bush.
Not surprisingly, the right-wing has gone wacko over this saying that the intelligence community cooked the books this time (as opposed to last time), and that there should be investigations into how this estimate was handled.
Well, in unintentional connection to this, Defense Secretary Robert Gates made a funny.
Quoted in a story online by CNN, Gates says:
"In reality, you cannot pick and choose only the conclusions you like of this National Intelligence Estimate," Gates said.
He's actually referring to Iran, but the same could be equally applied to the right wing punditry and blogosphere.
They absolutely loved the 2002 NIE that got them into Iraq. They loved the 2005 NIE that let them begin their push for attacking Iran, but all of a sudden, the 2007 NIE is flawed, political, and an attempted coup on the authority of the "benevolent" President Bush and his "glorious regime."
There is irony abound in the right wing these days. If only it were funny and harmless rather than insanely dangerous.
