One interesting tidbit from this week’s BushCo Friday evening toilet dump:
Charles "Cully" Stimson resigned Thursday after making controversial remarks last month about law firms that represent terrorism suspects held by the U.S. military, Pentagon officials said.
Well dang. His ex-puppeteers, of course, spun things the usual way: the legal community shit-storm his fascism created was hampering the more mild and "effective" fascism seemingly preferred by The Leadership:
Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said Stimson resigned because "the controversy surrounding him ... was hampering his ability to be effective in his current position."
It’s a damn shame, isn’t it? Because he seemed to know he might be a media target:
"As the primary policy advisor, I am the focal point in the department of defense for all things related to detainees," says Stimson. "I want to make sure we are treating detainees everywhere in Department of Defense custody humanely, consistent with our values, and our domestic and international legal obligations as a country. I have an enormous weight on my shoulders. I have to choose my words carefully because I am a public figure on a very, very controversial topic."
Well, yeah, just don't them core beliefs trip yer tongue!
