While we're talking about John Kasich possibly running for Ohio Gov, I was thinking of a certain other GOP elected official: Fmr. Treasurer and current Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney Joe Deters.
For those of you that might have forgotten Mr. Deters, he was elected as Treasurer in 1999, and stepped down in 2005 amid investigations into his campaign finances and charges of impropriety during his first tenure as Prosecutor.
The Sunday Dispatch brings to light more ethical questions, revealing that than-Treasurer Deters "spent well over $40,000 just on out-of-state travel in his final three years as treasurer, including $9,000 on trips after he had already won re-election in 2002. Deters racked up expenses in Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, New York City, Salt Lake City, New Orleans and within Florida, in Orlando, Naples, Fort Myers, Boca Raton and the Turnberry Isle Resort. Deters said all of the trips were for either work-related conferences or campaign events"
Hey, lots of Ohio's Treasury business gets done in Naples, I'm sure.
But why are these allegations of interest now? Well, word on the street is that St. Joe is currently planning on running in the OH-02 primary to unseat everybody's favorite Ohio Congresswoman, Mean Jean Schmidt. Maybe this explains why St. Joe loves Paul Hackett so much...
