Most of y'all, I suspect, have read of the first significant "conflict" of the 2008 campaign, between the Clinton and Obama campaigns on the subject of David Geffen -- and his current support for Obama vs. his prior backing of Bill Clinton.
I've been very disappointed in how both campaigns have handled this matter -- specifically the spokespersons who have resorted to snippy commments and name-calling when asked by the press to comment.
Specifically (see below):
"A day after Barack Obama goes out and eschews the politics of slash and burn, his campaign embraces the politics of trash," said Phil Singer, Clinton's deputy communications director.
Obama communications director Robert Gibbs ... pointed out that Hillary Clinton had recently praised Robert Ford, another South Carolina state senator who endorsed her and said the Democratic ticket would be in serious trouble if Obama was the nominee because of the color of his skin.
We deserve better than this. Our candidates should be promoting themselves and their own agendas, and they need to take responsibility for directing their campaign staff and spokespersons to stay out of the gutter, and stop attacking other Democratic candidates on non-substantive grounds.
This community has the power to force our candidates to play on a higher level, if they're not naturally inclined to do so already. Let's get them to stop the sniping and focus on our REAL problems; we'll benefit as a Party and as a nation if they do.
Now ... any ideas on exactly how we go about doing this?
