Among believers in Al Gore running for president, this evening was a milestone in the campaign leading up to Al Gore's run for the presidency. Two Oscars for AIT (An Inconvenient Truth): One for Best Documentary and One for Best Song (congrats Melissa Etheridge).
An Inconvenient Truth won an Oscar this evening. OK, an Oscar Statue a president does not make. However, he got major exposure and recognition on a grand stage in front of the entire country. Somebody tell me what the ratings are for the Oscars...it's got to be huge.
Next is the Nobel Peace Prize. Win it or not, Gore is a nominee and will get major buzz when the prize in announced. Though there are 181 nominees, which include Rush Limbaugh by the way, Al Gore will be mentioned in practically every article on the Peace Prize. Rush will not. The prize winner will likely be announced October 12.
Then we have Gore presenting before a joint congressional hearing on March 21 regarding global warming. Expect major press.
Oh yeah, we've got the Live Earth Concert tour to be held on seven continents on 7/7/07. Can you say Gorepalooza?
It all ads up to major buzz. And it's all predicated upon the issue of global warming, one that has cross-over appeal.
From a consumer product marketing perspective, I see this as a brilliantly orchestrated new product rollout. Gore's going to announce. We are now experiencing the launch. Bravo, I say.
I encourage ya'll to visit www.algore.org and make a small contribution. Since I started writing this diary less than an hour ago, contributions have gone from $30,000 to $40,000. Will be interesting to see where that number goes over the next few days.
FYI, the website just got a major retooling in the last 24 hours.
Gore supporters, please recommend this diary.
