Seems the much touted surge may not be the promised answer after all, at least according to Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi
BAGHDAD, Iraq - The most prominent Sunni in Iraq’s fragmented government said Monday that the United States is going to have to come up with a "Plan B" if the current crackdown fails to stem the violence in the capital.
Ah, our Iraqi partners are not true believers. In fact, they are trying to get our leaders to see some glimpse of reality.
"I was very frank with the American administration. I encouraged them to think seriously about ‘Plan B,"’ he said. "What sort of alternative do we have in the future in case the current security plan fails?"
Al-Hashemi said he has received no indication whether his advice was accepted.
Not surprising since this administration rarely takes the advice of anyone – and certainly not the people whose lives are at stake. While BushCo is incapable of recognizing irony, I am not. As I read the following I was astounded at what Bush has created by his lies.
"Up to now, legal procedures have not been observed," al-Hashemi said. "The human rights of Iraqis have not been respected as they should be. In this regard, this (security) plan is being implemented in the same way the previous ones were. This is surely regrettable."
At the same time, he said efforts to lure Sunni insurgents to lay down their arms was "moving at the speed of turtles" because the Shiite parties are reluctant "to bring them into the political process."
"They view the resistance as a terror group that is no different from al-Qaida and that’s the problem we are facing now," he said of the Shiites.
Just as Bush had this little problem about separating the acts of 9/11 and the acts of Saddam, now the very people he has thrust into war have begun to believe his meme. Oh, yeah, and Mr. Bush has issues with those pesky human rights things, so why wouldn't the Iraqiis??
Many in America still believe that we went to war in Iraq because of ties to al-Qaida, now many Iraqis believe it as well and can find their own reasons for human rights abuses.
Ain’t spreading democracy great????
