I haven't seen this point diaried in this way lately, so I hope I'm not taking up valuable bandwidth that could be otherwise used to bash Democrats or talk about knitting circles:
I was taken aback reading Darth Cheney's comment on the bombing in Afghanistan in which he got in a subtle crack at, well, you and me.
He was quoted in his response as saying something along the lines that "this is the work of people who question the authority of the[Afghan] government".
That really impressed me/pissed me off, because it was pretty masterful if you think about it. To me he was somewhat subtly turning the bombing (a violent and unacceptable form of protest to most thinking people) and turning it into an example of what happens when 'people' i.e. Democrats and 50 something % of the general US population 'question authority'.
Let's face it: as of this writing the new Congress that was ostensibly elected to stand up to BushCheney the way that the old Congress couldn't or wouldn't, has not responded as directly, competently or efficiently as many of us would have liked.
Questioning authority, as many of the Founding Fathers and civil liberties experts of the past 200+ years have pointed out much more eloquently than I have, is one of the most fundamental rights and furthermore is to me one of the most patriotic things that a citizen can do. By linking people who hold their government accountable to crazies with bombs blowing things up, Cheney has shown his mastery of Orwell's Rules of Order. What are we going to do about it?
Fortunately, just before writing this diary, I saw that Speaker Pelosi chose to use the word "impaired" to describe Chimpy's state of mind. This is also pretty masterful. Impaired implies inebriation, something that Chimpy has historically been pretty good at. Thank God we have someone on the ball over on Capitol Hill. I have been less than impressed with Harry Reid, who couldn't figure out how to stop BushCo when in the minority and still can't figure out how now that he's Majority Leader. Hill and Obama are duking it out in Hollywood, and Al Gore, possibly one of the few who can still save this planet, is getting blasted for what should be a non-issue.
I don't really have a question, an argument, or a point. I just wanted to point out that I see what's happening and I pray that someone besides Nancy Pelosi can see the line of scrimmage and fight to push it back. Now back to slamming Bill Richardson or complaining that the campus cops took away your frisbee.
