I believe the quote was "YearlyKos 2007 will make last year’s convention look like a bake sale". Truer words have never been spoken. Now, we’d like to introduce the newest addition to the festivities. Can you guess what it is? Go ahead and try. Take a stab at it. I’ll wait....
Oh, so close....but no. This year we are celebrating the independent mover and shaker by starting the YearlyKos Convention Screening Series. We have already dispatched our film scouts to survey the film festivals and gather a list of influential, progressive films and documentaries. Films that get great press while at the festivals but then seem to disappear because they lack access to a distributor or the studios don’t feel they are worth the investment. These films often never get a wide release or end up in the 3 for $10 bin at the video store. We feel these films deserve to be viewed by a larger audience so we will provide that opportunity at the YearlyKos Convention.
In the spirit of the people powered movement, we will also be offering a variety of opportunities to create and post your own videos as part of the screening series. We have all kinds of fun things in store but you have to monitor the Screening Series page at the Yearlykos Convention website for updates.
But wait, there’s more. Thursday, August 2nd is Screening Series Day. We will screen the films we have chosen, the shorts and viral ad winners from the community, and offer a great set of workshops and panels. The wizards at Brave New Films are already hatching ideas to offer hands on workshops for cultivating your ideas into a finished product. The BNF crew is chomping at the bit to share their knowledge and wisdom. The talented members of our Advisory Board have also made themselves available to share their insight as well.
Stop by the YKC website and learn more about the screening series. While you are there tune in to our virtual theater which will feature promos and user submitted content between now and the convention. Our inaugural show features 3 videos covering YKC 06. In the immortal words of that great rebel hero Flounder, "This is gonna be great!"
