I have just finished a short op-ed piece by retired Air Force Captain Dr. Richard Saccone entitled "Time to act on Iran is now" I found the piece while skimming through my news page. The piece caught my eye because I have not read many articles that call for an outright attack on Iran. Read on.>>>
Dr. Saccone thinks that an attack on Iran should take place for the following reason.
Iran is easily the most significant source of terror worldwide, providing financing, training, advice, support and supplies to its proxy Hezbollah as well as other groups as far away as Asia. That makes it a major opponent in the war on terror.
The attack of I ran would bring a catastrophic results as I see it. It would spark a rash of attacks through out the world. It would cause an economic disaster on a global scale. Although it would not matter to those who still think that the United States is the great super power, it would turn what few nations that still support the U.S. against It.
Dr. Saccone goes on to explain that another reason for going after Iran is, Iran wants to combined Iraq’s oil supplies with Iran’s which would make them second only to the Saudis.
What I find disturbing about an attack on Iran is, it will even further this administrations "Religious War". Allow me to explain. Since the on set of the Afghanistan war this administration in a low key way, has been feeding it’s base that this is a war against Islam. They did not attempt to separate the one percent radical element from the rest of Islam.
The administration with the help of the Right-Wing talking heads have distorted the faith and it’s beliefs to make it out that all followers of Islam are bent on harming Christians. They fail to show that the Christian faith believes in the same God as Islam. This administration has allowed hatred to grow to advance its own blood thirst.
Dr.Saccone writes that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, feels that he has been touch by the hand of his God, to bring on the second coming. Doesn’t that sound strikingly similar?
Counter Punch
Here are Bush's exact words, quoted by Haaretz: "God told me to strike at al Qaeda and I struck them, and then He instructed me to strike at Saddam, which I did, and now I am determined to solve the problem in the Middle East. If you help me, I will act, and if not, the elections will come and I will have to focus on them."
But in all fairness Dr. Saccone writes that Ahmadinejad said,
Even more troubling, we are dealing with a president who firmly believes in an apocalyptic vision that the 12th Imam will return to Earth to establish a worldwide Islamic caliphate. Ahmadinejad told a cleric that he felt the "hand of God" mesmerizing world leaders as he spoke at the U.N. General Assembly in September.
My feelings on this are that we have two lunatics facing each other down and they need no help in provoking each other. The solution lies in something that would help in many ways, and that is to mandate the break of the U.S. from any decencies on foreign fuels. Not by 2012, but now.
I am 47 years old, and would like to see "My Country" nondependent on any other, when it comes to a source of energy. Although it has been said before, I want it to come from the mouth of a person that does not have the oil companies writing their propaganda.
