Many people in the netroots have been saying that they don't think Wes Clark will be running in '08, but his top notch Facebook operation indicates otherwise. Yesterday he, or more likely the staffer who runs his Facebook campaign, wished me a happy birthday.
If you're familiar with the Facebook you would know how easily this could happen. Users on Facebook get a feed of what's happening with all of their friends. Who's joining what groups, people's relationship status, and birthdays. A staffer likely checks up on this every day, and sends out a short happy birthday message. Simple, extremely effective, and free.

How did Wes Clark become my Facebook friend? He send me a friend request. Any candidate trying to reach out to college student activists on the Facebook should try to emulate what Wes Clark is doing. It is extremely easy to do a group search of Democratic activists. The Democratic Party, and College Democrats of America both have Facebook groups with a few thousand members. It would be a relatively easy task to send out a friend request to each of those members. Most states have a College Democrats Facebook group, too. the College Democrats of NH has about 400 members on Facebook.
Facebook campaigning goes beyond friend requests and birthday greetings. I am also a member of two Wes Clark groups; a WesPAC group, and "Stop the Surge and Change the Strategy!", both because I was sent an invitation from Wes Clark. Wes Clark also frequently sends out messages via the notes feature, and through his Facebook groups. He once sent out a link to a DailyKos straw poll, other times he talks about the war in Iraq, or preventing war in Iran.
Will Wes run? I don't know. You have to wonder, could there be any other reason for him to be sending 'Happy Birthday' notes to College Activists?
