Why do we continue to let the apologists for the Bush Administration repeat the same ad-hominum lines?
" Serves at the Pleasure of the President" - is that phrase not the most monarchial phrase ever heard in a Republic?
Well, I for one am only willing to hear that phrase in the future in relationship to the Marine Corps Band - that organization serves at the pleasure of the President. If the President wanted the Marine Corp Band to play hip hop - the band leader better start taking lessons from P Diddy.
Everyone else - especially those who are confirmed by the Senate, as US Attorneys are, serve us, the American people. Call me naive - but the President gets elected, gets to nominate his choices for US Attorneys, they get confirmed (or not), and then let them do their job. Get your initial choice right at the time of nomination and let them go to work for the American people. Why is that concept so hard for the Republicans to grasp?
Far be it from me to help the Republicans in any way but the idea that Americans actually want government to work as intended on a day to day basis rather than in furthering the agenda of the Republican Party in patronage and obstructing investigations is exactly at the heart of their problems.
Winning office has turned into a spoil to be rewarded and they have tipped their hand and as polls and the recent election have shown people are fed up with Rovian political tactics.
Congresional Democrats need to trust the American people and what the recent polls and election actually say.
To conclude: Tell anyone who asks that the Marine Band only serves at the pleasure of the President - everyone else serves at our pleasure.http://www.marineband.usmc.mil/
